Undefeated World Boxing Association light flyweight ‘’super’’ champion Hiroto Kyoguchi of Watanabe Boxing Gym and ‘regular’’ champion Esteban Bermudez of Mexico held a joint press conference in Guadalajara, Mexico, on June 8 in preparation for their title unification fight on June 10 (11 Japan time).
The 28-year-old Kyoguchi said Naoya ‘’Monster’’ Inoue’s devastating knockout victory over Nonito Donaire of the Philippines to unify the three of the four world bantamweight titles the previous day in Japan served him in good stead, adding, ‘’He and I were born in the same year (1993), and we are friends. His victory is, therefore, very stimulating for me.’’
Asked about his being undefeated since turning pro in April 2016, Kyoguchi replied, ‘’The fact that I am being undefeated does not mean too much. True I feel pressure each time I defend my title. But I am always up for a challenge.’’
At the end of the press conference, they had some 10 second face-off. They then shock hands and exchanged their best wishes in the fight.
The upcoming fight will be Kyoguchi’s second title defense overseas following his fifth-round TKO over Bermudez’s compatriot Axel Aragon Vega in March last year in Dallas, Texas. Kyoguchi has a record of 15 straight wins, including 10 KOs. Bermudez, 26, won the title by stopping Carlos Canizales of Venezuela in May last year. He has a 14-3-2 win-loss-draw tally with 10 KOs.
