IBF minimumweight champ Shigeoka to defend title for 3rd time on July 28 in Shiga Pref.

  International Boxing Federation minimumweight champion Ginjiro Shigeoka of Watanabe Boxing Gym will defend his title against top-ranked Pedro Taduran of the Philippines on July 28 in Shiga Prefecture, western Japan, the gym said on May 29.

  It will be the 24-year-old Shigeoka’s third defense of the title he Won in April last year.

  The scheduled 12-rounder will be held at the prefecture’s Shiga Daihatsu Arena, the first world title fight in Shiga Prefecture, under the banner of 3150FIGHT vol.9 promoted by Kameda Promotion Co.

  The left-handed Shigeoka told reporters at the gym, ‘’My opponent this time is an aggressive type. I think my reputation will be so much enhanced if I knock him out,’’ thereby pledging his fourth straight KO victory in his world title fights.

  The undefeated Shigeoka has 11 straight victories, including nine KOs, with one no contest., whereas the 27-year-old Taduran, a former IBF minimumweight champion, is also a southpaw and has a record of 16 wins, 12 by KO, against four losses and a draw.
