A teenage professional boxer at a gym in Nagoya that belongs to Japan Pro Boxing Associations was found to have developed the novel coronavirus through polymerase chain reaction or PCR tests, the second such case in the central Japanese prefecture of Aichi, the Japan Boxing Commission said on Aug. 4.
In late April, two pro boxers in the prefecture were found to be infected with the coronavirus, according to the JBC, which makes it a rule to announce each time a person or persons concerned with boxing develop the coronavirus or COVID-19.
The teenager this time has a fever and is standing by at home, the JBC said.
While the gym’s name was not revealed, it is now closed as it is waiting for instructions of a local public health center.
On Aug. 2, a boxing trainee at a gym in Okinawa was found to be infected with COVID-19 for the first time in Japan’s southernmost prefecture.
