World Boxing Council bantamweight champion Alexandro Santiago of Mexico appeared in good condition in his public workout at Teiken Boxing Gym in Tokyo on Feb. 17 for his title defense against top-ranked Junto Nakatani of M.T Boxing Gym on Feb. 24 at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena.

  The 28-year-old Santiago showed shadowboxing, mitt- and punching-bag hitting by showing nimble movement. Particularly, he showed rapid combination blows in the mitt-hitting practice.

  M.T gym’s head Takeshi Murano said, ‘’He looks relaxed and appears to be in good condition.’’

Santiago, who is making his first defense of the title he captured by decisioning Nonito Donaire of the Philippines last July, said, ‘’I will not let Nakatani get in the way of my career because it took me a long time to become a world champion. I want to become the undisputed champion of the division.’’

Asked about his impression of Nakatani, a former World Boxing Organization flyweight and super flyweight champion, Santiago simply said, ‘’He is a tall southpaw,’’ adding, he will avoid fighting at a long range. ‘’I hope you people will watch how I will fight, particularly my cleverness. We two should have a great fight,’’ he concluded.

Santiago stands 159 cm tall, whereas the 26-year-old Nakatani is 172-cm tall.

Santiago has a 28-3-5 win-loss-draw record with 14 KOs. The undefeated Nakatani has a record of 26 wins, 19 by knockout.

The fight is part of the event called ‘’Prime Video Presents Live Boxing 7,’’ in which two more world title fights will be held along with an eight-round bantamweight bout.
