Top-ranked World Boxing Association flyweight Seigo ‘’Yuri’’ Akui of Kurashiki Moriyasu Boxing Gym pounded out a unanimous decision over previously undefeated champion Artem Dalakian of Ukraine and wrested the title on Jan. 23 in Osaka, becoming the first world champion from an Okayama prefectural gym in western Japan.

After the 12-round fight at EDION Arena Osaka, the three judges scored the fight 116-112, 117-111 and 119-109, respectively, all in favor of the 28-year-old Akui.

With his first loss in his career, the 36-year-old Dalakian failed in his seventh defense of the title he captured in February 2018. The fight was postponed from the originally expected last Nov. 15 due to unforeseen circumstances beyond Akui’s control.

There were no knockdowns during the 12-round fight held at EDION Arena Osaka as part of the event called ‘’Prime Video Presents Live Boxing 6.’’

While neither was able to land decisive punches, it was Akui who landed more effective punches than Dalakian who moved side to side rapidly while keeping his guard low.

After the fight, Akui said, ‘’I respect my opponent. But I did what I had to do in the ring. I profoundly thank my family, stablemates and the gym’s head Ryuya Moriyasu for supporting me through and through.’’

With the wins, Akui improved his record to19 wins, 11 by KO, against two losses and a draw. Dalakian now has a record of 25 wins, including 15 knockouts, against a loss.
